“If I cannot interact with my Pakistani friends how will I be friends with them? “This can be a uniting force,” the 47-year-old told AFP. To him, sporting clashes between Pakistan and India present an opportunity for engagement between the two sets of supporters. Vyas travelled from London with his two teenaged children and his sister. Pharmaceutical consultant Rahul Vyas said the match at the Commonwealths - otherwise known as the “Friendly Games” - was “a wonderful place to increase love, harmony and peace”. India then rattled off the runs to win by eight wickets inside 12 overs, with Smriti Mandhana making 63 not out. The Pakistani fans impressed with their fancy dress - one dressed in a “Mad Hatter”-style costume in the national colours and another wearing a superhero-style outfit with a shock of green hair.īut it was the Indian fans who had more reason to cheer as their rivals were bundled out for just 99 in their 18 overs.Īlso Read: IND vs PAK, CWG 2022 Group A Match Highlights: Smriti Mandhana Fifty Powers India to 8-Wicket Win The sun eventually appeared and the match was reduced from 20 to 18 overs per innings, with Pakistan batting first.Īlso Read- CWG 2022: Smriti Mandhana, Spinners Help India Thrash Pakistan By 8 Wickets Spectators tried to keep dry in the steady early drizzle as Birmingham rock band Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr Blue Sky” blared out.

They have not faced each other in a bilateral men’s series since Pakistan toured India in 2012/13 for a set of one-day internationals and Twenty20 matches during a brief thaw in relations.īut there was none of that tension as thousands of fans from the sizeable Birmingham-based Indian and Pakistan communities gathered at Edgbaston to watch the women’s teams do battle on Sunday. India cut bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan after attacks in Mumbai in 2008 that authorities blamed on Pakistani militants.

Political tensions mean cricketers from the two countries currently only meet in multi-nation events.ĬWG 2022 – FULL COVERAGE | IN-DEPTH | INDIA FOCUS | OFF THE FIELD | IN PHOTOS While the outerthings can be a little out of date, I think the underthings should be in period so I'll find some Edwardian combinations.Pakistan and India fans mingled at Edgbaston on Sunday during the much-anticipated Commonwealth Games clash between the South Asian rivals, with supporters hailing the occasion as a chance to increase harmony.Īustralia’s cricketers are favourites for gold in Birmingham but there is nothing to match the fierce rivalry between the two cricket-obsessed South Asian nations.

Actually I could go on about how Sophie is kind of the idealized feminine like the Gibson girl was supposed to be but that's for another sub! This Gilded Age era pattern is much closer!Ī Gibson girl-style pattern, so chosen for that yoke, gathered bodice, and slightly puffed sleeves, not to mention that is a little out of date for WWI era, kind of like Sophie so endearingly is. Am I on the right track? How do I find plates/patterns from that era?Įdit: I think I got a couple of patterns nailed down:Ī shirtwaist dress if I'm trying to go one-piece? Would have to edit the neckline just a tad. So I may put her fashion sense at pre-war, 1910 - 1914.Īny thoughts? I was just considering splitting the difference and looking at plates/patterns from 1913 - 1916 but I have no clue where to find those. This is most clearly stated with her favorite, iconic hat being a rather small-brimmed straw hat compared to the more fashionable ones of the movie. However, Sophie mentions she dresses rather old for her age her clothing "finally suits her" when she gets cursed into Grandma!Sophie. WWI lasted from 1914 - 1918, so I would start there. It's unclear to me whether or not the war has been going on and has only moved to Sophie's region recently or it has just started.
#Sophie hatter movie
The combined imagery of the costumes and the war machines pretty strongly evoke the beginning/middle of WWI, since at the beginning of the movie there's talk about the burgeoning war. I wanted to do a historically accurate Sophie Hatter but wasn't quite sure what year to go by since everything's a bit of a mishmosh. I just recently saw Howl's Moving Castle for the first time EVER and fell in love with the Edwardian/pre-WWI feeling of the costumes.
